Description

A flavorful and easy Old Bay Shrimp Boil featuring juicy jumbo shrimp, smoked sausage, corn, and red potatoes simmered with lemon, garlic, and Old Bay seasoning for a classic seafood feast.

Ingredients

Scale

Seafood and Meat

  • 2 pounds large jumbo shrimp peeled and deveined, tails on
  • 1 pound smoked sausage kielbasa or andouille, cut into 1 inch pieces

Vegetables and Fruits

  • 4 ears corn, each cut into 4 pieces
  • 1 pound small red potatoes, cut in half
  • 1 medium onion, cleaned and cut into large pieces
  • 4 lemons, 2 for cooking, 2 for serving
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, plus more for garnish, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, cleaned and smashed

Seasonings and Others

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ⅓ cup seafood seasoning like Old Bay
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare boiling water: Fill a large pot with water and quarter two lemons into the pot. Add the onion, garlic cloves, and seafood seasoning (Old Bay) to the water. Bring the water to a boil.
  2. Cook potatoes: Add the cleaned and halved small red potatoes to the boiling water. Cook for 12 minutes or until just barely fork tender.
  3. Add corn and sausage: Add the cut corn pieces and smoked sausage slices to the boiling water. Cook for 6 minutes.
  4. Cook shrimp: Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the boiling water. Cook for 3 minutes or until shrimp are pink and cooked through.
  5. Drain and transfer: Drain the water from the pot and place the shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes on a large baking sheet.
  6. Prepare butter sauce: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the unsalted butter. Add salt, black pepper, and 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley. Whisk to combine.
  7. Toss with butter: Pour half of the butter mixture over the shrimp boil mixture and stir well to coat everything evenly. Reserve remaining butter for serving.
  8. Garnish and serve: Garnish with additional chopped parsley and lemon wedges. Sprinkle more seafood seasoning to taste if desired. Serve immediately with the reserved butter mixture on the side.

Notes

  • Use fresh jumbo shrimp for best flavor, but frozen shrimp can be used if thawed properly.
  • Adjust seafood seasoning amount according to your spice preference.
  • If you don’t have smoked sausage, andouille or kielbasa are great substitutes.
  • Serve with crusty bread or crackers to soak up the flavorful butter sauce.
  • For easier cleanup, line the baking sheet with foil before placing the boil mixture on it.
  • Adding lemons to the boiling water infuses a subtle citrus flavor into the seafood and vegetables.
