Description

A festive Halloween Fruit Salad featuring pumpkin-shaped cantaloupe pieces, mixed berries, mandarin oranges, and a sweet honey-orange dressing that brightens the flavors and makes for a healthy, colorful snack or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruit

  • 1 ripe cantaloupe melon
  • 16 ounces blackberries
  • 15 ounces canned mandarin oranges, drained
  • 8 ounces dark cherries or grapes, pitted
  • 6 ounces golden berries, halved
  • 4 ripe apricots, pitted and sliced

Dressing

  • 1 small orange, juiced and zested (about 1 tablespoon zest and 3 tablespoons juice)
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cantaloupe: Cut the cantaloupe into 1-inch slices and use a small pumpkin-shaped cookie cutter to cut out pumpkin shapes for a festive presentation.
  2. Combine Fruit: In a large bowl, add the cantaloupe pumpkin shapes, blackberries, mandarin oranges, cherries or grapes, golden berries, and sliced apricots.
  3. Make Dressing: Whisk together the orange zest, orange juice, and honey until well combined and slightly thickened.
  4. Toss Salad: Drizzle the honey-orange dressing over the mixed fruit and very gently stir to evenly coat all pieces without breaking the fruit.
  5. Serve: Enjoy the fruit salad immediately for the freshest flavor and best texture.

Notes

  • The mini pumpkin cookie cutter adds a festive touch but is optional; you can simply cube the cantaloupe if unavailable.
  • You can customize the fruit selection to include your favorite fruits, especially mixing orange and black fruits for a Halloween theme.
  • Orange zest and juice add bright acidity; using a Navel orange is great, but Cara Cara or Blood orange are excellent alternatives.
  • Ensure your fruit salad includes at least one melon, one citrus, and one berry for balanced flavor and texture.
