Ingredients
Scale
Donuts
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- ¾ cup sugar
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup milk
Glaze & Decorations
- 2 cups confectioner’s sugar
- 3 tablespoons milk
- ¼ cup Halloween sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray two 6-cup donut pans or one 12-cup donut pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, stir together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder until well combined.
- Combine Sugar and Oil: In a large bowl, whisk the sugar and vegetable oil together until the mixture becomes fluffy.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Continue beating until fully incorporated and smooth.
- Incorporate Flour and Milk: Pour the flour mixture and milk into the wet ingredients and gently fold together until just combined, being careful not to over-mix the batter.
- Fill Donut Pans: Spoon about 3 tablespoons of batter into each donut cup, filling them evenly.
- Bake Donuts: Place in the oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the donuts comes out clean. Remove and let cool on a cooling rack.
- Prepare Glaze: While the donuts are cooling, whisk together the confectioner’s sugar and milk in a small bowl until you get a smooth, thick glaze consistency.
- Glaze Donuts: Dip the tops of the cooled donuts into the glaze, then set them on parchment paper.
- Add Sprinkles: Immediately sprinkle Halloween sprinkles over the glazed top before the glaze sets to decorate.
- Set and Serve: Allow the glaze to fully set on the donuts at room temperature before serving.
Notes
- Use a silicone donut pan or well-greased metal pan to ensure easy donut removal.
- Do not over-mix the batter to keep the donuts tender and light.
- Allow donuts to cool completely before glazing to prevent glaze from melting.
- Substitute milk with any plant-based milk to make the recipe dairy-free if desired.
- Store glazed donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
