Ingredients
Scale
Tea Base
- 1 Earl Grey tea bag (or 1 tsp loose leaf Earl Grey tea)
- 1 cup water
Cherry Mixture
- 4-5 fresh cherries (pitted and halved)
- 2 tablespoons water
Milk Mixture
- 1/2 cup milk (any type: dairy, almond, oat, etc.)
- 1-2 tsp vanilla syrup (adjust to taste)
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
Additional
- Ice (optional for iced version)
Instructions
- Prepare Cherry Mixture: In a small saucepan, combine the fresh cherries with 2 tablespoons of water. Simmer on low heat for 5 minutes until the cherries soften and release their juices. Gently mash the cherries to extract more flavor.
- Brew Earl Grey Tea: While cherries simmer, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Steep the Earl Grey tea bag or loose leaf tea in the hot water for 5 minutes for a strong brew. Remove the tea bag or strain the leaves.
- Heat Milk and Combine: Pour the milk into the saucepan with the softened cherries. Gently warm the milk mixture over low heat, stirring occasionally. Add the cinnamon stick if using for a subtle spice note.
- Add Sweetener: Stir in 1-2 teaspoons of vanilla syrup to the milk and cherry mixture, adjusting sweetness to taste.
- Combine Tea and Milk Mixture: Pour the brewed Earl Grey tea into a mug, then strain the warm milk and cherry mixture into the same mug, pressing on the cherries to release all the juice. Stir well to combine flavors.
- Serve Hot or Iced: For iced tea, allow the mixture to cool slightly before pouring over ice in a glass. For hot tea, serve immediately. Garnish with a fresh cherry or a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flair.
Notes
- Use any milk of your choice—dairy, almond, or oat—for preferred taste or dietary needs.
- The vanilla syrup can be adjusted or substituted with honey or maple syrup for natural sweetness.
- Fresh cherries add vibrant flavor; frozen cherries can be used but may require longer simmering.
- The cinnamon stick is optional but adds a warm, spiced depth to the drink.
- To make this completely vegan, opt for plant-based milk and sweeteners like maple syrup.
- For stronger cherry flavor, simmer cherries a bit longer or add cherry juice instead of water.
