Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 5 Tablespoons Butter
- ¼ teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 10 Cups Mini Marshmallows, divided
- 6 Cups Rice Krispies Cereal, cinnamon sugar flavored
- ½ teaspoon Sea Salt, fine grain
- ½ Can Dulce de Leche
Instructions
- Prepare Pan: Spray a 9×9-inch pan with non-stick spray and line it with a foil or parchment paper sling. Spray the lining again to ensure easy removal.
- Brown Butter: Place a large pot on the stove over medium heat and add the butter. Let it melt and continue stirring gently until it foams and brown flecks form, indicating the butter is browned. Remove from heat immediately to prevent burning.
- Melt Marshmallows: Add the sea salt and 8 cups of mini marshmallows to the browned butter while it’s still warm. Stir continuously until the marshmallows are completely melted and the mixture is smooth. If needed, return to low heat briefly, ensuring it doesn’t burn.
- Add Vanilla: Stir in the vanilla extract until evenly combined.
- Combine Cereal: Measure the cinnamon sugar flavored Rice Krispies cereal into a large bowl. Pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the cereal and mix well to coat all the pieces.
- Add Remaining Marshmallows: While still warm, fold in the remaining 2 cups of mini marshmallows to the cereal mixture.
- Layer Treats: Lightly press about half of the cereal mixture evenly into the prepared pan using a buttered spoon or your hands lightly greased with butter to avoid sticking.
- Spread Dulce de Leche: Evenly spread half a can of dulce de leche over the pressed layer of Rice Krispies in the pan.
- Top with Remaining Mixture: Add the remaining rice krispies mixture on top and gently press it down evenly to cover the dulce de leche layer.
- Set and Serve: Allow the treats to set at room temperature until completely cooled and firm before slicing and serving.
Notes
- If cinnamon sugar Rice Krispies are unavailable, add ¼ to ⅓ cup cinnamon sugar to plain Rice Krispies before mixing.
- To brown butter, use a light-colored pan and stir gently; remove from heat as soon as brown flecks appear to avoid burning.
- Use a spoon with a little butter on it to press the cereal mixture into the pan without sticking to your hands.
- Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days or freeze for up to 6 weeks for longer preservation.
