Ingredients
Scale
Fruits
- 2 pounds longan fruit
- 1 pint blueberries
- 1/2 pound frozen mixed berries (such as Trader Joe’s Very Cherry Frozen Berry Blend)
Instructions
- Peel Longans: Remove the skin from the longans by starting at the stem end, making the rest of the skin easy to peel off.
- Deseed Longans: Cut the longans in half, remove and discard the large inedible seeds in the center.
- Stuff with Blueberries: Place one blueberry inside the center of each halved longan piece to create the ‘eyeballs.’
- Prepare Berry Sauce: Blitz half of the frozen mixed berry blend in a blender or food processor until smooth to make a ‘bloody’ berry puree.
- Plate the Dish: Spread the berry puree on a plate and arrange the stuffed longan ‘eyeballs’ on top for serving.
Notes
- You can substitute frozen berries with fresh ones if available for a brighter flavor.
- Chilling the berry puree before serving enhances the refreshing taste of the dessert.
- This dessert can be prepared a few hours ahead and refrigerated to allow flavors to meld.
- Longan removal is easier if you roll the fruit gently between your palms before peeling.
- For a variation, try using grapes instead of blueberries as stuffing.
